Simple Provisions

Food does not need to be fancy to be celebrated

Eggs

Simple Provisions was retired in 2016. While I still love food, I have turned my attention to sustainable fashion. If, like me, your interest in food sits alongside an interest in fashion, then please subscribe to my newsletter Misplaced Style where I explore finding personal style without screwing the planet.

History

Simple Provisions started in 2012. In 2011 I moved to New York City from Melbourne, Australia to work at Martha Stewart. I found that the craziness of the city required a counterbalance, and mine was found by exploring local green markets, small-batch producers and eating with the seasons.

In November 2012 I moved back home to Australia and swapped the city for the country. I now live in Kyneton, Victoria – a town of 6,600 people. I live in a big old house with an apple and pear tree in the garden. This is an experiment in slower living.

I started this blog to remind myself to prepare and eat food that makes me happy.

And I do that by:

  • Cooking with seasonal produce – it is cheaper, better for the environment and tastier
  • Preparing it simply to let the natural flavours shine
  • Appreciating each meal and striving to make the mundane beautiful, no occasion necessary

Looking forward to reading more of your blog. I have always put avocado on nice toasted breads (never thought anyone else did, don’t know why!) but never thought to put a tasty cheese on it. I love simple!

  6. christinechevalier says:

Great blog! So pleasant to read, Simple recipes, lovely pictures. Prepare food that makes you happy, way to go for a healthy diet!

  7. Such a nice recipe! I sometimes make a similar toast – must be my “inner Australian” -but I must try the mint with it! I am toasting all sorts of bread, I live in Germany so there is plenty of choice. Lovely recipes, thanks!

  8. I love your ethos and your sensibility. It’s a little bit like my own. (:

  9. Leah says:

congrats on the freshly pressed. A Melbourne girl living in Brisbane I appreciate seeking solice in the good food finds of a new city. Thank you for sharing

  10. Absolutely agree with your first words “A fresh, crisp radish smeared in butter and dipped in salt can make a dreary day brighter. A stock made from kitchen scraps can transform into a fragrant soup to warm a chill. And a couple of pieces of bread, some cheese and a grill can become the most delicious late night snack ever”

Keeping things simple and do not handle or transform ingredients to much can be always much better and if you add an special atmosphere or ritual can just be perfect 🙂

    1. Amelia says:

Ritual is a big part of it, yes! The photos on your blog are beautiful. Thanks for stopping by.

  11. Diane says:

Another Australian – with similar interests. Such relief to read recipes that don’t include cliches like ‘drizzle with truffle oil’. Keep it up.
